The Transversus Abdominis muscle (TVA), which is also thought of as the transversalis muscle or the transverse abdominal muscle, is a deep muscle layer sheath of the anterior and lateral abdominal wall which is right under the internal oblique muscle. It is well known to be an important muscle of the functional core of our bodies.
The transversus abdominis, called this because of the direction of the muscle fibers, is the inner of the muscles of the abdomen, being located immediately under the internal oblique muscle.
The Transversus Abdominis (TVA) is the “Natural weight lifting belt”
The Transversus Abdominis muscle has also been called our “Natural weight lifting belt” because it protects and stabilizes the spine during sport and heavy lifting. This is why it’s important not to use a lifting belt too much while exercising because the training neglects to train this important core muscle.
