The Diaphragm Muscle

The Diaphram Muscle

The Diaphram Muscle

In all mammals, the thoracic diaphragm, or simply just known as the diaphragm muscle, is a sheath of deep core muscle that runs along the bottom part of the rib cage. The diaphragm seperates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity and acts as an integral part of respiration. The diaphragm can be referred to other flat muscles, but “the diaphragm” almost always refers to the thoracic diaphragm.

The Diaphragm Muscle of the deep core muscles

Despite being more well know for aiding with our respiration, the diaphram is a deep core muscle that does act as stabilizer in all or motions and activities. This is why the importance of proper breathing and keeping the abdomin retracted and tight during all exercises is important with strengthen these muscles that are not well-known as deep core muscles.

Core training for the Diaphragm Muscle

Core training such as stability and balance training can strengthen the Diaphragm for better functional core strength. A stronger Diaphragm Muscle can mean a much stronger core in the future.
